COVID 19 Pandemic:
On March 16, 2020, Governor Leon Guerrero shut down non essential services on island and everyone is to stay home to stop the spread of this virus. Schools were closed.
On April 6, 2020, GDOE ended the school year. The Guam Education Board approved using 3rd quarter grades for the 2nd semester. Guam Legislature waived the 75 hours of Service Learning for graduating seniors.
On May 4, 2020, SSHS admin allowed department by department for teachers to clear out their classrooms since the school year abruptly ended.
I cleaned out our classroom and secured it for the summer (see photos below). When school reopens, it will be different because of new precautions per social distancing guidelines; classroom seating arrangements will most likely change to keep students apart, perhaps smaller class sizes? more sanitizing between classes, no handshakes, and may be even the wearing of masks as a requirement. A whole new world! Travel and hospitality industry will have major changes in the way it does business. I am looking forward to these innovations and sharing with my students. This crisis has a major impact on the global economy and students' career choices.
