Realistic = Do you have the time and resources to achieve your goals?
Time-bound = Set meaningful deadlines to give your goals a sense of urgency. Without meaningful deadlines, you run the risk of having your goals fade away into the mist of procrastination.

Assignment #2:
Read the following advice from 2016 graduates and summarize in your assignment page (due 9/6/16):
a. Which graduate's advice was your favorite? Why?
b. Which graduate's advice was the least useful? Why?
c. Work with a partner and list five common themes from these advice.
- Incoming advice I would tell LMP I students is to enjoy this program and really take what you can from it. Take advantage of all the opportunities that Mr. Chong and this program has to offer. Create bonds with your classmates. After all, they are probably going to see each other in a different light because of the ice breakers. Lastly, just enjoy high school and make the most of it. It really does fly by. Live it up! GOODLUCK
- My advice to them is to share what they feel and be able to express themselves in their own way because sometimes you never know what to expect out of someone until they speak up. It would be a great way for students who are shy and want to come out of their shell just like me. I was so shy, I didn't want to say anything, but when I do, it makes me feel good because it’s helping me be more outgoing. Also, they should take each and every opportunity that is given to them to build their resumes and have a great one as soon as they leave high school.
- Whenever Mr. Chong gives opportunities for anything, don’t take it for granted. Try it out, it would help you and make you stand out more in the end. Don’t procrastinate on your work, not only for LMP but with every class. It’s not a good habit and it’ll be hard to fix later on.And have fun learning. Make many friends, especially here in LMP. They’re your second family.
- My advice to the LMP I students are to stay educated and stay out of trouble. LMP I is the half way mark to graduating. It is possible to do anything you want to do. If you seem indecisive of everything you do, why don’t you just try everything and anything that seems to benefit you and don’t harm you in any sort of way. It is best to try than never to try at all. It may seem cliché but it’s the truth. The truth will only set you free on what you are capable of doing. If you think school is to just keep you from just living the way you want it, it may not seem that way. Think of school as a place where you can have so many opportunities and you can try them all. Everything in school is only a place where you can make a mistake and knowing you have a choice to make that lesson or keep trying. Throughout high school just enjoy everything that high school gives you because this are the last years of school you’ll be doing if you don’t continue your education. Always remember to stay educated and stay out of trouble.
- Advice I would give to incoming LMP students is to do the best you can do at everything and have fun along the way. Remember to always do your Weebly and publish before you exit. Always call or message Mr. Chong if you are unable to come to class. Take every opportunity that Mr. Chong gives you like CPR training and Teen CERT. Try not being in a cleanup team with all your friends, try being with strangers or other classmates so you'll become closer with them. Do what you want during your internships and just try your best. The most important advice I would give, would be to ask yourself this question, “what would your 40 year old self say to you right now?” Basically, what I am trying to get at is to have no regrets when you leave.
- An advice I would give the incoming students is to do your work on time. I have learned the hard way, struggled multiple times and I know what it'll feel like if they don't take this advice. Another advice I would give would be to be attentive in class. Mr. Chong asks questions and it’s best to pay attention in class. Also don't chew gum.
- I definitely did a lot of growing up in the program. LMP is one of a big factor to what has shaped me into the lady I am today. When you are in the program for 3 years, you learn a lot about yourself and about other people. We have had numerous amounts of guest speakers come in and talk to us about their jobs in the hospitality industry, or schools, or even just to give advice, and the list goes on. We have answered a bunch of icebreaker questions that make you think on your feet, which is ideal for job interviews, or even just to allow you to get to know your classmates. Even the little things, like maintaining the classroom cleanliness or welcoming guests with a “Hafa Adai” makes a difference in yourself and others. So, my advice to the incoming LMP students would be to stay in the program for the whole 3 years. It was definitely worth it. If I could redo high school, I would definitely relive the past 3 years. LMP is my second family.
- I would let them know to get involved in opportunity that is presented to them like participating in Japan Autumn Festival or even taking upon those one day or two day job opportunities to be a wait staff at a banquet event. I also think the best advice I can give to the incoming LMP student is to really try to be responsible. I have failed so many times to be responsible in this class even with the simplest tasks. Responsibility will keep them out of trouble and they won't have to slip through the cracks when assignments are due. I know from experience. I would also tell them to just enjoy these years in LMP. There are so many things that they will benefit from. They will also be having so much fun.
- My only advice I would give to the LMPI students is to read Steve Jobs' commencement speech he gave at Stanford in 2005. The lesson behind his speech if the advice that inspires me. I hope they will find inspiration in it as well. Oh, and also to get out there and get involved. Take the opportunities offered by the program and to play as much sports as possible. I would advise them to don't do anything half way and do it all the way when it comes to school. (Don't forget to read the speech)
- My advice for the incoming LMP I students is to ALWAYS TAKE THE OPPORTUNITIES Mr. Chong has to offer because it will always benefit you in a way, whether it is for experience, for your resume, etc. BE RESPONSIBLE; use your time wisely, call-in if you’re running late or won’t attend his class and do your work because everything you do and how you do it will says something about you. Mr. Chong is very understanding, if you’re having any personal issues regarding with his work, talk to him. Lastly, BE YOURSELF. If you’re very lucky, the next three years in LMP you will build a great bond with your classmates and Mr. Chong and they will feel like family.
- My advice to students going to LMP I is to take Mr. Chong’s advice to heart. Take advantage of all his opportunities. I wasn’t able to take advantage of all of them and I regret it. Make friends with your LMP classmates and work together. Once you have them close open up to more people. Start making unique bonds with the people you want in your life and start being motivated. Keep spending hours bettering yourself and speak up, so one day people will see you as someone they could follow.
- I would advise the LMP 1 students to listen to Mr. Chong. Don’t be lazy. He doesn’t expect you to carry the world on your shoulders but to just be empathetic and respectful. He doesn’t give much work but when he does, just do it. Don’t be lazy. Your grade will go down! Choose your work experience wisely. Do what you want to do. Follow your passion. Try to do the hardest things first so the easier things will feel like a breeze. Take advantage of all the offers Mr. Chong gives to you. He offers a lot of service learning. Take advantage because they are not boring. Talk to Mr. Chong. He is one of the most understanding, nicest, and funniest teachers to talk to. He really tries to see where you’re coming from. Always publish your Weebly! Enjoy your high school years! Before you know it, your senior year will come and you’ll be wishing you could do it all over again!
- My advice for the LMP I students is to keep an open mind. It may be simple and sweet but it can mean a lot of things. Keep your mind open to others’ opinions. Keep your mind open to others’ likes and dislikes. Keep your mind open when learning new cultures and languages. Keep your mind open when you get a guest complaint. Keep your mind open when you choose the department you would like to intern at. Just keep your mind open to try, hear, and accept new things. Keeping your mind open will help you adapt with anything you come across. “If you don’t go through life with an open mind, you will find a lot of closed doors.” -Mark W. Perrett
- My biggest advice for incoming LMP I students is to work hard and do your work. Like I mentioned multiple times earlier, deadlines are very important to Mr. Chong and if you don’t want to get on his bad side, I suggest you do your work and turn it in on time. Remember that communication is key and that you will have to communicate with others if and when you need help. Create a bond with your LMP I classmates because the faces that you see in your first year will be the faces that you see for the next two years after that. Grow and learn with each other and get along, life is too short to be angry or resentful.
- First thing you guys should do is have a bond with your classmates. Organize a potluck or a beach day. Three years with each other so be ready to get closer to each other. Others may not have a tight family, it wouldn't hurt to open your arms to each other. Secondly, take all the opportunities Mr. Chong gives you because they will help you in service learning, grades, or your resume. Make time to do all those things to help benefit you in the future. Don't slack off, it will really stand out to have more knowledge compared to the others in your class year. Lastly, enjoy your time in class. You chose the GCC class, make use of it. Someone once told me, if you don't enjoy what you're doing, why do it?
- My advice would be keeping track on Mr. Chong’s assignments especially your Weebly. Those are big part of your grades. You don’t want to suffer like I am. I didn’t take it seriously until I knew I was failing his class. Always ask him questions and contact him when you think you won’t turn in the assignment on time or else he won’t give you credit for it. So communication and assignment needs to get done.
- My advice to upcoming LMP I students is to enjoy their year and grab all the opportunities they will have. Read and follow all the instructions of Mr. Chong. Make sure every assignment are delineate so everyone will understand it! Always communicate with Mr. Chong whenever you extend the due date of your assignment. Whatever you are doing in class don't forget to always have fun and smile.
- Keep going, keep trying and more importantly, communication is key. There are times where you are going to mess up. There are times when school (or your general classes) is going to feel too much and you feel like you can’t continue. Let Mr. Chong know how you feel, how you’re doing. You’re not going to be penalized in anyway and you can work out something with him. More importantly if you feel that you’re not important or that you are messing up or you’re failing in life, you’re not! You are important, you are one of a kind and messing up is okay, so long as you learn from it. Failure isn’t messing up, it’s giving up. Keep going, keep trying, deep down you’re strong enough and more importantly you matter.
- My advice for incoming LMP 1 students is, take advantage of everything Mr. Chong gives you and don’t miss a thing, because it will help you in the future and life will be easier with the training, experience, and skills that you can get in LMP, LMP was a big help for me, now I know what to do in the real world and I can get a job I like with the resume I have. So don’t miss out of the things Mr. Chong gives you! It’ll be worth it in the end!
- My advice to LMP I would be to PUBLISH YOUR WEEBLY. I make the mistake of doing my work early & always forgetting to publish my work. I suggest them to take advantage of all the opportunities Mr. Chong gives. It may not seem much right now, but they are very useful in the future. Renew your health certificates before the expiration. Mr. Chong doesn’t give a lot of work, so do them because if not, your grade will drop quickly! It’s okay to open up to your classmates & Mr. Chong. You will be with each other for three years. You will build a close bond, but it’s up to you to open up. Communication is key! If you’re having trouble with anything, personal or dealing with the work, talk to Mr. Chong. He’s very understanding & will be more than happy to help you, but you have to let him know ahead of time.
- For the incoming LMP students, I'd like to tell them to not be afraid to express themselves because everyone is very accepting. Mr. Chong is very accommodating, just talk to him if you have a problem, need help with anything, or need more time with your work. Never be a "no show, no call" because you can always tell Mr. Chong. Communication is key. Choose a career that you enjoy doing. You find yourself in the three years you spend in this program. I want to own a restaurant one day, but I'm going to be studying to be a physical therapist. Be yourself, and do what you love. Never stop learning.
