Guam expects to receive an additional 11,500 visitors during this year’s “Golden Week,” according to the Guam Visitors Bureau, which announced efforts to shorten processing times at the airport, clean up tourist attractions and maintain restrooms at major parks islandwide. There also will be an increased presence of visitor safety officers to keep everyone safe.
This year’s Golden Week, which is when Japanese tourists celebrate a series of national holidays, is from April 24 to May 5. The additional visitors – about 1,000 more per day, compared to the average of 4,500 per day – are expected to bring about $15.4 million into the island’s economy, according to GVB.

Of that amount, visitors are projected to spend about $5.5 million while on island and about $9.8 million in prepaid expenses.
As part of the increased travel demand, there will be 68 charter flights, in addition to regularly scheduled flights, according to GVB.
“This is the biggest Golden Week we’ve seen in recent years,” said GVB president and CEO Pilar Laguaña. “We want our community and local businesses to prepare and feel excited for this infusion into our local economy and use the opportunity to showcase our island hospitality, CHamoru culture and Håfa Adai spirit.”
