I plan to complete 180 hours of work experience in a hotel or restaurant by 2022 and maintain 80% or better in my CTE courses.
I will also complete my Workkeys Curriculum training online and Workkeys assessment to earn my National Career Readiness Certificate by May 2022.
A. 2. Long-term goal (after graduation):
Use this template (copy and paste):
I will enroll in (college/university on or off island or military) in fall, 2022, and I plan to major in ______(or I am still exploring a major). I plan to graduate with my (choose - associate's or bachelor's degree) in June, (year). I may transfer off-island to go to another college to pursue further education (or to work or join the military). I may work part-time in the hospitality industry while I attend college. My long-term career goal is to be ___________. (You can add more to your long-term goals).
Goals must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound (SMART):
Specific = What, Why, Who, When, and How. Make sure each of your goals are clearly stated and defined. If you don't know where you want to go, any road will take you there. Try to combine as many of your goals together as possible so that you are able to accomplish more in less time.
Measurable = If you can't measure your goal, you can't manage it. Break your goal down into bite size tasks and create checkpoints to monitor your progress and create positive momentum. Stay flexible with your goals and don't be concerned if you need to make some changes to your goals as you advance toward their
accomplishment.
Achievable = Be mindful not to set too large a goal or too short a time frame. Your goals should stretch your capability, but at the same time they need to be "mentally
attainable" so you don't lose interest.
Realistic = Do you have the time and resources to achieve your goals?
Time-bound = Set meaningful deadlines to give your goals a sense of urgency. Without meaningful deadlines, you run the risk of having your goals fade away into the mist of procrastination.

Assignment #2:
Read the following advice from 2019 graduates and summarize in your assignment page (due Aug 30, 2019):
a. Which graduate's advice was your favorite? Why?
b. Which graduate's advice was the least useful? Why?
c. Work with a partner and list three common themes from these advice.
1. "My advice is to open up to your classmates. If you stay in this program until the end, you will be with the same group of people for three years. Not only in LMP, but also your math and English classes. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get to know some other people you never though you’d talk to. This class is flooded with opportunities. Whenever you get the chance, take it, whether it’s a banquet event or CERT, CPR training, or a chance to get SL hours. Always remember your due dates. It can easily slip your mind, but remember to pay attention. Another thing is to communicate. If you’re absent, or late to class, always let Mr. Chong know ahead of time. He’s very understanding if you just communicate with him. One last thing that I think is super important is to appreciate the time you got. Before you know it you’re going to be graduating next and you’re gonna start to reminisce. Take your time to realize that these are going to be your last few years left in high school. Make it count to be the best version of you."
2. "Always be kind and get along with your classmates, because you're going to be stuck with them for 3 years depending on your choice to stay or if you make it to the next year. Also communication is key. Talk to Mr. Chong; he's very understanding and will help you find a way with whatever situation you're going through. Most importantly take every opportunity you can get and use it to your advantage. When one door closes another one opens. Enjoy your experience as much as you can because time will fly by fast and you can only live through high school once."
3. "Always know that you have a purpose in life and if you ended up in LMP then fulfill the task of reaching your goals and you will soon find your purpose. LMP is the eye opener part of your life in high school. Be ready to be one step ahead of everyone and be proud to be a part of a really great program, especially because your teacher is Mr. Chong!"
4. "My advice for incoming LMP I students is to take advantage of every opportunity you receive. Always think positively and always want to put good out in to the world. You will make mistakes and do thing you may regret, but in the end you will only take out of high school and life what you put in to it. So you should always want to put your best out in to the world and your purest intentions if that is what you expect to receive back. 4 years is not enough time, so enjoy everything you possibly can. Do everything in your life with PURPOSE."
5. "My advice would be for them to enjoy the time they have with you while they can because it will go by fast and before they know it, they are graduating. Also, do your Weebly assignments. NEVER FORGET ABOUT YOUR PORTFOLIO! That is a major part of your grade."
6. "Answer all the ice breaker question no matter what. You probably didn't know it at the time but those ice breaker questions are the thing that will probably be one of your favorite memories in high school. Follow all the due dates that Mr. Chong put up on the board. If you said you didn't know then obviously you weren't paying attention to the due dates on the board. Take every opportunity Mr.Chong gives. All those opportunity that he gives is because he wants us to be more educated in the work place area and he just wants the best for us. Lastly never take advantage of his kindness. If you need to talk to someone Mr.Chong is always there to help. If you need an extension on an assignment then just let him know why you need it, he'll most likely give it to you if have a good reason but please don't lie to him. Mr.Chong is one of the most understanding teachers I've ever had."
7. "There is a lot of things you are going learn from this class. Not only do you learn about hospitality, but you learn a lot about yourself and other people. Don’t slack off, this class is easy, which makes it easy to fail. Try to take up every opportunity Mr. Chong offers, they really will benefit you. Get out of your shell, this is the one class that will make you feel at home. Enjoy your high school life, it will fly by fast."
8. "My advice to the incoming LMP 1 students is that high school goes by so fast. So take every single opportunity Mr. Chong, your teacher or coaches has to offer. You wouldn’t want to leave high school with regrets or a what if moments. Create a bond during the first year of LMP1 because the people you see in your class, you will be together for next three years."
9. "i think my advice would to constantly communicate. This is so important especially when you need help or even an extension."
10. "My advice to give to upcoming LMP students is to take advantage of everything Mr. Chong offers! Don’t take the due date for granted because once the date comes Mr. Chong will know if the work was last minute. Also to have fun and enjoy the class itself. Make friends with people you know of or just see in class because everybody has a different story to tell.
11. "An advice I would give to the incoming sophomores are, always turn in your work on the deadlines. Not only with the deadlines, but also communication. Mr. Chong is tough on those two things. First is the deadline, if you can’t turn in something due to having problems.. What do you do? Communicate with him and let him know why you can’t turn in what you’re going to turn in. Mr. Chong is lenient with it, BUT don’t take advantage of it. Practicing being prompt is a good skill in both the college and career field."
12. "Mr. Chong is a very understanding teacher, but please do not take advantage of that. Always communicate with him if you are going to be absent, late, or unable to get the work done. Respect your classmates because you never know what they are going through. They will be your classmates for 3 years so it's best to get to know them personally. Most importantly, when Mr. Chong offers an opportunity, take it because it will be such a big help."
13. "Hello LMP 1 students! Here's some advice to help you prepare for the rest of your year(s) in this course. ALWAYS COMMUNICATE WITH MR. CHONG. Whether you have financial or personal problems that are stopping you from being happy, completing assignments before the deadline, or attending field trips, PLEASE TELL HIM. He is very, very, very understanding and listens carefully; he is always willing to help you and gives amazing advice. Please constantly check the board because he has service learning and banquet opportunities, deadlines for certain assignments there. If you need money, hotels always inform Mr. Chong about their upcoming functions and he offers them to his students as a way to earn money AND experience. Speaking of experience, I recommend you participate in the summer work experience program; it's fun and teaches you a lot about the hospitality and tourism industry. This will be able to help those who are unsure of continuing this course to decide if LMP really is for them. My last piece of advice for you is to open up to your classmates and establish a bond. You will be stuck with each other for the next 2 or 3 years, so I suggest you all get to know each other. Believe it or not, your LMP class will end up becoming a family where everyone cries and laughs together and spill tea without leaking any of the drops outside the cup. That is all. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time with LMP!"
14. "The advice I would give to the upcoming LMP students is to break out of your shell. Be open with your classmates and with Mr. Chong, he is very understanding so all you have to do is talk to him. Also, you have to be patient if he gets on you, it's just because he cares! Take all the opportunities you can and make the most of it because time goes by fast, before you know it you'll be graduating. Stay out of trouble and good luck!"
15. "Talk to Mr. Chong, he's so understanding and he'll always help you out. Communication is KEY in this class. Don't be afraid to speak when it comes to the ice breaker questions, let it out, it'll feel good at the end. Lastly, make connections with your classmates, create that bond, make LMP feel like home. Live your best life!"
16. "Enjoy every moment and don't be scared to take risks and join a lot of things for high school will not repeat again."

CHONG.
